FYI – Use Travel South Yorkshire for up to date travel news on the go! – https://www.travelsouthyorkshire.com/
1. Sheffield Peace Gardens
Located at the front of the town hall, Sheffield Peace Gardens is known for its fountains that shoot up from the floor and grassy surroundings. The perfect location for a picnic and ideal for somewhere for the kids to cool off!
For those who want hassle free travel, the Peace Gardens are located a 5 minute walk away from the train station. Or for those who prefer to drive there is a large amount of on street parking for as little as a pound per hour as well as multiple car parks within 5 minutes walking distance.
2. Rivelin Valley Park
Rivelin Valley Park can be found in the Rivelin area of Sheffield close to Malin bridge. The park features a ‘splash pool’ feature at the bottom which runs down a long stretch of the park providing enough room for everyone to relax in the sunshine.
Not only are there accessible facilities available to allow everyone to get involved but the paddling pools are also anti-slip, so parents can enjoy the day out as much as the kids!
If water doesn’t sound ideal for the car journey home, you can also spend your day exploring the park on its very own nature trail. There are footpaths that take you all the way through nature and the best bits it has to offer.
It’s never been easier to get here with the blue tram service to Malin Bridge dropping you just a short walk away from all the fun! There is also a small car park located across the road from the entrance, but you’ll have to be quick as this is a popular destination throughout the summer months.
The park and the cafe are currently open on weekdays from 11pm till 5pm increasing to 7 days per week after the 14th of July. The best part about this activity is that its free to use! We would also recommend taking a picnic to eat on the grass.

3. Rother Valley Country Park
Located just on the edge of Sheffield and Rotherham, this park is the perfect place to spend an action packed day outside! The huge park is packed with activities, most of which take place in the lake situated right in the centre.
Activities include, canoeing, family boating, biking and golf! There really is something for all the family! With this day out however there are costs when using the facilities and the price does depend on the activity as well as how many people are taking part. For example, use of a family row/ paddle boat for 2 adults and 2 children costs just £12.00!
The good thing about this day out is that the park itself is free to enter and activities are not mandatory, if you would prefer to spend the day playing football and hula hooping with a picnic then by all means do so!
In terms of travel there are bus routes that can drop you off pretty close to the park depending on where you live, or you can pay a maximum of £5.00 to use the car park for the day. All in all, Rother Valley Country Park is a lovely day out when the weather is great, and the activities are endless!

Not only can you spend the day enjoying the various trails throughout the woodland, you can also let the kids burn all their energy in the park’s fairground section. Bouncy castles and amusements will have them tired out and ready for the journey home in no time! There are small costs when using these attractions, but these are optional. There is also a cafe serving hot and cold refreshments but again there’s nothing wrong with a packed lunch full of your favourite sandwiches and treats!
There is plenty of car parking available on the roads outside the car park but be sure to check all signs when doing so. Travelling via public transport is also accessible however it does depend on where you are travelling from as to how near you will be able to get or how long it will take.
